Scuttlebutt - September 13

I'm headed to Stockholm this weekend to perform John Adams' "The Dharma at Big Sur" with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

I had the honor of working with conductor Ryan Bancroft last year when I stepped in at the last minute to sub for Chloë Hanslip who was scheduled to perform "Dharma" with the Baltimore Symphony but was unable to get to the US from Great Britain due to covid-era Visa issues.

Turns out, Ryan grew up on my recording of "Dharma" with the BBC Symphony--it was the first conductor score he ever purchased for himself when he was 16.

As we walked offstage in Baltimore on the first of our 3 nights there, Ryan, who had just been appointed Chief Conductor at Stockholm, declared "I'm bringing you to Stockholm next year!" and so here we are!

What a thrill to play this magical piece with someone who loves it as much as I do! Again!

I'm honored to be included in this upcoming video workshop put together by my friend and co-editor of my Strum Bowing Method Book, Julie Lyonn Lieberman.

Always great to see my former students when they get a quick break from non-stop touring, not to mention full-time Momming. Aria Stiles stopped by to play me a piece she was preparing for a big concert with the MN State Fair Orchestra. She crushed it, of course. But then I don't think she ever showed up to one lesson in 4 years where she wasn't completely prepared.
