It's been a busy September so it's nice to finally be home for a minute, spend some time with the fam, dig back into projects in the studio, and see some friends. One of the coolest things about Nashville is that it's not unusual to find A-list session players and world-class touring pros in little hole-in-the-wall restaurants, playing their asses off just for fun and to keep their chops up.
My old friend Pat Bergeson was kind enough to play guitar on my holiday album about 15 years ago. He's toured and recorded with folks like Chet Atkins, Lyle Lovett, Suzy Boggus, Les Brers and lots and lots of others. But on Wednesday nights, if you know to go all the way to the back and then go upstairs at Central BBQ in Hillsboro Village, no cover charge, you'll find him laying down some of the tastiest guitar lines over organ wizard Charles Treadway's mind-bending jams, with Chris Brown on drums, to a room full of old friends, young players taking notes and other appreciators of high-level instrumental magic.
It's one of those "only in Nashville" kind of things that keeps us locals hanging around. |
