Scuttlebutt - November 23

November 23, 2022
Happy Thanksgiving!

Been going after it old-school this week, working on a new set of modal jazz etudes for violin that will be coming out next year on Mel Bay Publishing . Zoom in if you want to geek out on quartal harmony.
I start out with some key ideas scribbled on the notebook on the left. Then I start mocking it up on the big pad on the right, fleshing out some of the shorthanded ideas.
Then I enter every note and marking into a music notation software called Finale. I think it's so helpful to visualize the fingerboard for these etudes, so I'm also making up dozens of fingerboard diagrams in Photoshop that get inserted into the Finale notation pages.

I'm also creating audio backing tracks for the etudes. Getting some help on some of the cooler grooves from my in-house producer, Toby Beats .
My new online video course is a comprehensive 3-lesson overview of my Strum Bowing Method. For $27.99, you get a physical gift/access card that makes a perfect stocking stuffer for that string player on your list. Available exclusively at SharMusic.com .
