Hey friends!

The American Symphony has just announced their new season so I can finally reveal the big top secret project I've been working on:

A new electric violin concerto from the legendary Roberto Sierra!

The ASO is the lead commissioner of a consortium of 4 orchestras (so far!) who will announce shortly. The concert will be at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater this upcoming June 5!

I've been waiting to work with Roberto for about 8 years, since we first met and became acquainted with each other's music. We both share a vision for concert music that freely incorporates our contemporary musical vernacular--Latin rhythms, rock and jazz idioms--as seen through an abstract symphonic lens. Inspired by Spanish-language literary giant Georges Luis Borges, the new piece is titled "Ficciones" (Fictions) and will be 4 movements based on 4 short stories. Sooooo exciting! The first movement, El Aleph, is already complete. Stay tuned for updates!

Always a joy to jam with my long-time bandmate Roy "Futureman" Wooten. The Futureman/Silverman duo landed last weekend in Sheridan, WY for a concert at Sheridan College's Whitney Center for the Arts. We also did a workshop for the music majors earlier in the day titled, "Dialogue: The Art of Improvisation."
