If I look a little tired it's because my flight was cancelled yesterday as were the 5(!!) other flights I subsequently booked in a desperate attempt to make it to this 9am rehearsal this morning. It was our only rehearsal (aside from a quick soundcheck/partial run-thru tomorrow afternoon before the concert,) and the clock was ticking, so I rented a car and drove the 11 hours and got here in the wee hours this morning. The show must go on! Click the image for a quick vid.
My guest on the podcast this week is my buddy Zach Brock who talks about Charlie Parker playing the violin, the improv angel and demon on his shoulders, and how not to swing. (Spoiler alert: be swung instead.) And then a little quiz for the Snarky Puppy violinist about...kittens.
And speaking of podcasts, it's not everyday you get to be a guest on your favorite podcast, but this month I'm featured on the Craft Brewed Music Podcast, an amazing collection of conversations with some of the most interesting musicians you may never have heard of. If you haven't subscribed, I highly recommend! CBM is also a curated music discovery app which I love! (Disclaimer--I am also a proud CBM artist.)
And finally, another new video premiere this week: "Fantasy on Symphony No. 7: Allegretto Groovando", my arrangement of the epic 2nd movement of Beethoven's symphony, with the Apollo Chamber Players. Click the image below to watch on YouTube.
(And, in a moment of crazy Beethoven synchronicity--the real Beethoven 7th Symphony is on the program with the Baltimore Symphony this week.)
Sorry for the long one this week. Some weeks are just busier than others.
As always, Iād love to hear from you--just hit reply or comment/message me on socials below.
